Formatting Suggestions for Indent Issues
Once a Word document is imported into OnBase, most Word functions will be usable. However, the ruler bar is locked when in OnBase. If you need to fix or add formatting that involves indenting, other functions may be helpful. Several options are given below.
- To fix formats using the paragraph options and indents.
1.1. Select the “Home” tab in MS Word
1.2. Put the cursor on the line with bad format
1.3. In the section of the Home ribbon labelled “Paragraph”
- Expand by clicking the drop down arrow on the right bottom of the “Paragraph” section
- Increase or decrease the indent by changing the left or right indent amounts.
- The paragraph dialog box is also where you can adjust indents for single lines or based on the outline level if you have your document configured based on the outline level.
- Use the radio buttons on the Quick Access menu at the top of the window:
- While on the “Home” tab, use the bullets, numbered list or multilevel list – whatever the preference to get the desired outline
2.1. If you click the drop down arrow next to each, you can then select the style you want to use to outline the document by using bullets, number list, or multilevel list (see arrow).
- To indent, use the decrease indent or increase indent radio buttons.
- If an old document has excessive tabs that are causing formatting issues, this is a method for clearing tabs.
- Highlight the section of the document or the whole document
- Go to “Home” tab in Word
- Select the “Paragraph” dialog launcher
4.1. The little arrow on the bottom right
- Select “Tabs” at the bottom of the Paragraph sub box.
- Do one of the following:
6.1. Select a tab stop and select Clear
6.2. Select Clear All to remove all tabs
- Select “OK”
Document can then be reformatted.
