Installing Zoom Client On PCs

Tags Meeting zoom

The Zoom client is updated often with features and security and will periodically require mandatory updates. It can be installed in the logged-on user's profile to allow updates, without administrator permission and this software has been pre-approved.

This applies to the client for Zoom Meetings and Webinars.

It's not necessary for IS staff to install a Zoom Client for Meetings on user's PCs. When joining a meeting or Webinar, a Zoom client can be installed during the join process, in the user's profile.

If desired to optionally pre-install the Zoom Client for Meetings, the client is found at https://zoom.us/download
Click "Download" under Zoom Desktop Client for Meetings to download the latest version in the respective user profile. Right-click the downloaded file, then choose Open.

Alternatively, and only if the meeting or Webinar organizer has configured their Zoom event to offer to Join From Browser, it's possible to join a Zoom event by clicking that option when joining the meeting. This is useful in very restricted environments (e.g., Federal gov't) where users are not allowed to install the Zoom client. Joining From Browser has some limitations. This page explains feature differences... https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/360027397692-Desktop-client-mobile-app-and-web-client-comparison

The Zoom Outlook plug-in is not included with the Zoom client. This plug-in is not required to join and host Zoom meetings. It allows Zoom event starting and scheduling via Outlook. The plug-in requires administrator rights to install, as it modifies the computer's system. If the Zoom Outlook plug-in is needed, please create a TeamDynamix ticket for OIS to do the installation.
