Each computer workstation has a unique name

  • They start with the letters SLH (for State Lab of Hygiene) followed by either a W – for workstations; L – for laptops, I – for instruments
    • Exceptions: Some systems before Standard was set. Vendor PCs that we can’t change the name, or on a limited network.
    • It is important that you provide the SLH# when you submit a WSLH Service Desk ticket for computer help
  • Workstation names; or it is also referred to the SLH#, can be found as a physical label placed on the workstation. It will be found on the front of the workstation or on the top of the workstation near the front.
  • This unique SLH# can also be found
    • In place of the Microsoft’s wording for the “My Computer” desktop icon
      • This also shows who is signed onto the computer by displaying their username.
        • There are some desktops that may not show “My Computer”.  
      • On left menu on Windows File Explorer you will see the username followed by the SLH#
      • If you are not logged into the computer yet; you can do CTRL-ALT-DEL
        • Choose How do I sign in to another domain
        • At the bottom of the screen it will now provide PC name on a line with something like Type SLHW0123\local username...
